Minutes from April 2002 Chapter Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Brian Foote at approximately 10:05 A.M. at VFW POST # 1, Denver, Colorado.

The minutes of the MARCH 16, 2002 meeting were submitted by Secretary Roger D. Patterson. APPROVED

The Treasurer’s report for APRIL 20, 2002 was submitted by Treasurer Roger D. Patterson. APPROVED

Vice President Ed Fickes gave an update and review of the Semi Trailer project the Chapter is studying. Chapter members present together with 5 proxies received by President Foote voted the Semi Trailer as presented by Vice President Fickes a Chapter Project, 25 yes’s to 4 no’s

Membership Chair Mike Law present. He spoke about the Directory, Calendar and News from National and gave an update on the Vegas Reunion and our Chapter’s participation with Mile Law heading up the registration process.

The action to purchase two Memorial bricks from the National Vietnam War Museum for our two deceased Chapter members is still in process but should be completed this month.

Past President Ellwood Soderlind informed us the IRS has approved our status as a 501(c) (19) non-profit Veterans organization. This status gives us tax exempt status. Copies of the official approval paperwork were provided to the Chapter officers. Great News and great job Ellwood.

Rick Beaver spoke on a Chapter social activity he is working on for June 14, 2002 weekend which includes attending the Boulder Dinner Theater for dinner and a presentation of “Fiddler on the Roof”. Members will need to contact Rich before May 14 if you plan to attend. This event is also for Spouses and others. More details will be on the Web site.

A motion to refund President Foote his expenses of $86.19 for reproduction and postage for the recent Quarterly Newsletter was approved by voice vote.

Robby Robinson , Chairman of Our American Heritage Education Foundation and Vietnam veteran, spoke to us about a project that his foundation is sponsoring that is intended to give an accurate picture of the Vietnam conflict to High School and College students, Veterans organizations and other groups. The program centers around four professionally prepared video tapes and the presence of a Vietnam veteran at the showings to answer questions from the audience. The donation for a complete program is $300.00.

Next month’s meeting will be held May 18 at 10:00 A. M. at the Air Force Academy Officers Club. After the meeting anyone interested can attend the Armed Forces Day Air Show at the old Terminal area of the Colorado Springs Airport.

Next Saturday April 27, 2002 there will be a breakfast and information meeting at Terry Sullivan’s office in Colorado Springs. The meeting is intended to attract more veterans in the Colorado Springs area to our Chapter. See the calendar on the Chapter Website for more information and directions.
The June 15, 2002 meeting will be at VFW Post # 1 in Denver.
