Minutes from January 2004 Chapter Meeting

Published by at 2:22 pm under Meeting Minutes

Vice President Bill Robie called the meeting to order at 10:15 AM at the VFW Post in Denver, CO.

Dave Greene was sitting in for Secretary/Treasurer Roger Patterson.

The Proposed Minutes from the November 8,2003 meeting were presented by VP Bill Robie and were Approved as presented.

The Treasurers Report was presented by VP Bill Robie and was Approved as presented.

Two new members introduced themselves: Chuck Garner from Woodland Park, flew with the 129th, and returning member Tim Pastorelli with the 158th.

Two long lost members also attended: Terry Sullivan from Colorado Springs, and Mike Hammer from Denver returned. Terry recently completed his new house on Grand Lake. Mike presented some photos of very old Marine helicopters, including one of a highly modified Chinook test aircraft.

The Trailer Report was presented by Rick Beaver. He requests that all who work/have worked on the trailer project log their time. This log will be used in our grant requests, showing member involvement with the project. Rick also emphasized the need for both funding and for work days from members. There was a motion to increase Yearly dues from $20.00 to $30.00. Upon further discussion, the motion was withdrawn.
There was a discussion of additional $50.00 shares to be purchased by members. This was proposed as a short-term solution to close the gap between current funds and longer term grant monies. There was a motion to move $1500.00 from the general fund to the trailer fund. This motion was approved.

A discussion of the grant process for the Trailer followed. Fred Lyssy is orchestrating the process, and all suggestions of people/organizations to approach should go through Fred. The working of the Grant emphasizes that this is an Educational grant, not a Veterans grant.. All members were urged to provide Fred with any contacts they might have who might be willing to entertain the grant proposal, and to work with Fred in the approach to be used. A discussion of the collection process for museum artifacts ensued. Send an email or snail mail to Jim McNamee of artifacts you have and are willing to loan/give to the museum/trailer project. The availability of a receipt for tax purposes of a donation to the project was discussed.

Under the heading of ‘New Business’, the potential arrival in Denver of “America’s Huey” was discussed. Some of the background of the project that involved “In the Shadow of the Blade”, “091”, and “America’s Huey” were discussed, and it was felt by the general membership attending that no purpose was served by ignoring their request for support, and that much good could come by supporting the effort. The problem with the groups will not be solved by our action or inaction, and only the public’s view is important at this point. 091 will go into the Smithsonian next year, and is touring to support that project. Tentative dates are for 091 to arrive in Colorado Springs on the evening of February 21, 2003, spend 2 days visiting local schools and the Air Force Academy, then to Denver on the 24th at possibly Wings over the Rockies at Lowery, then on to Greeley on the 25th. A motion was made to support the events as necessary, and was approved. Another motion was presented to specifically host/co-host the event in Denver and provides unspecified support for the Denver visit of “America’s Huey”. It was also approved. A support committee was formed with Bill Robie, Fred Lyssy, Pat Mahoney, Greg Mann, Mike Hammer, and both Walts – Wise and Winters volunteering.
