VHPARMC Upcoming Events as of 18 September 2005
We have a lot of chapter events coming up in the near future. The upcoming events, detailed below, are:
- October-”Exhibit Building Meeting” at the Helicopter War Museum site in Golden
- November 5th Army/Air Force Football Game
- Veterans Day Helicopter War Museum Trip to Greeley
- Cookie “Fest” at the VA Hospital (December 3rd)
- Early 2006 tentative events
- October and November Meetings–In lieu of a regular October meeting, we will have a museum exhibit building meeting on the regular date (October 15th) and time (10:00), at the trailer site in Golden. In the event of inclement weather, we will meet at the Buffalo Rose in Golden. We encourage all members to attend and lend a helping hand on design as well as construction. The November meeting will be on Saturday the 12th in conjunction with the Veterans Day Celebration in Greeley (See below).
- November 5th Army/Air Force Football Game–Terry Sullivan is working on a chapter get together for the game, which is at 1:30 on Saturday, November 5th. Prior to the game, we will have a lunch or tailgate party starting at noon. We will need to have firm commitments from those planning to attend by the October meeting so that we can buy the tickets. Please bring wives/guests.
- Veterans Day Helicopter War Museum Trip to Greeley–Ed Fickes is working on the details for this event, which will be our inaugural museum trip. We will have more information at the October meeting, but, for now, the dates to keep in mind are Friday, November 11th, and Saturday, the 12th. The main ceremony is Friday morning. Ed will keep us up to date on the plans. We will start to develop a duty roster of members to man the museum both days at the October meeting. We would love to have your wives, family, and friends there with us.
- Cookie “Fest” at the VA Hospital–We did this event last December, and it was well received by the patients at the Hospital. The VA staff has requested that we do it again. Several members, wives, and friends took cookies, etc., to the Hospital last year, mingled with the patients, and sang (?) hymns. We have arranged with the VA Hospital to have the event again this year on Saturday, December 3rd, starting at 1:30. Don and Donna Rice will provide cocoa and cider, and the rest of us will provide cookies and other treats (don’t forget sugar-free snacks).
- Early 2006 tentative events–
We have several events in the works for the first 6 months of 2006. These are all tentative and in the early planning stages. They include:- The (rescheduled) VA Hospital Pig Roast in late spring.
- A meeting at Butts AAF in Colorado Springs, including a briefing about the current state of helicopter warfare and lunch;
- A trip with the Helicopter War Museum to Atwood, Kansas, for a Vietnam War Memorial dedication (this trip was requested by member Gary Worthy of Atwood, who, along with his wife, Mona, attended our August meeting in Golden); and
- A trip for the Helicopter War Museum to the Vietnam Veterans memorial at Angel Fire, New Mexico, for the annual Memorial Day observation.
Plus, of course, we plan to take the museum to Washington, D.C. for the VHPA Reunion in July, and we are looking at other venues.
It’s going to be a busy, interesting, and fun time for the Chapter. I hope you are able to join us for some of the events. If you have any questions, please call me.
