Published by Brian Foote at 3:37 pm under Meeting Minutes

President Jim McNamee called meeting to order at 10:10 a.m. at the Fort Logan VFW Post, 2680 West Hampden Ave., Englewood, CO.

The minutes for the March 18th meeting were approved (Motion-Ed Fickes, Second-Rick Beaver), as was the financial statement (Motion-Ed, second Doug Neil). During the discussion on the financial statements, Jim mentioned that the EC is writing financial procedures that will provide for more detail on the statements and separate ledgers for major accounts.

Jim mentioned that the EC will be meeting in the near future to discuss the financial procedures and possible by law changes.

Jim mentioned that there had been a change to the July 4th activity at the VHPA Reunion and that anyone that had signed up for it should check the VHPA website for information. The change involves a change in venue and an additional payment for the ticket.

Jim stated that he had updated the grant documents passed around a copy. He will provide an electronic version and/or a hard, signed copy if anyone has a lead.

Jim reminded members that the elections for Vice President and Junior Member at Large will be held at the June meeting and called again for nomination to be made to him or Dave as soon as possible, preferably by the May meeting.

Jim mentioned that Ed Fickes, Jerry Marshall, and Walt Winters had decided to purchase three 6 foot by 6 foot decals for the Helicopter War Museum (HWM) trailer that will have the museum logo and our website. The decals will serve as a bridge to our eventual murals. Also, Ed mentioned that Kinko’s had agreed to update (at no cost) the museum posters that they donated for the Veterans Day event in Greeley.

Jim gave an update on the planned HWM trip to Atwood, Kansas, for the Veterans Memorial dedication there on May 6th and said that Gary Worthy had arranged for housing for us. He also said that Rick Beaver, Ed Fickes, Jerry Marshall, Walt Winters, and he had met at the trailer in Greeley on April 20th and gotten it ready to go.

Jim gave an update on the HWM trip to Angel Fire for the Memorial Day celebration. He mentioned that Coors Distributing Company had rescinded their offer to provide a tractor and expenses for the trip and that we would need to find alternative funding (approximately $1,500, including lodging and food for the driver). (Bill Brewster is going to provide the tractor.) Bill Robie talked about the Coors issue, and said that he is still trying to contact them to discuss alternatives. Rick Beaver also mentioned that he may be able to procure a donation for expenses.

Jim spoke on the Experimental Aircraft Association Regional Fly In at Front Range Airport on June 24th and 25th. The organizers have approved having the HWM there at minimal cost to us with six free passes. We will set the museum up on June 23rd and send it back to Greeley late on the 25th. Jerry Marshall and Ed Fickes are working on the details with the event organizers.

Jim mentioned that he and Ed Fickes plan to attend a Korean War Veteran tribute at Northridge High School in Greeley on Friday, April 28th. They will display shadow boxes and other items from the museum.

Jim stated that he had sent an e-mail to Stacey Stegman to invite her to one of our functions, but had not received a reply. He will try to contact her one more time, but will not pester her further if she chooses not to reply.
